Swimwear was never a huge priority in my closet (I know, the irony especially since I grew up in the islands!). The only times I gave it more thought was right before beach trips. I’d rummage through my drawers to find a pile of inexpensive, unflattering options that I didn’t feel good about. Then, the last-minute shopping ensues and I would resort to buying something, anything. I think we’ve all been there right?
Since we’ve been enjoying some warmer weather lately and taking more trips to the beach and pool, I decided to finally break the swimwear rut and invest in pieces I truly love. As a pragmatist, I aimed to hunt for suits that could also be worn with daily outfits to maximize cost per wear. I prioritized style, fit, comfort and sustainability — narrowing it all down to three styles that flatter me the most: French-cut bottoms with bandeau tops (great for avoiding tan lines, also works underneath an oversized blazer and trousers), classic one-pieces (can also be styled as a bodysuit with regular outfits), and one-shoulder maillots (also doubles as a bodysuit with shorts or trousers). I’m partial to more modest styles with high-cut silhouettes for their leg-lengthening effect and deep backs for added interest.
After combing through countless brands and silhouettes, I invested in a Toteme maillot and this Bottega Veneta one-shoulder suit. This asymmetrical style is exactly what I was looking for — simple yet has a striking cutout feature in the back and the most comfortable crinkled fabric (similar to Hunza G, but thicker). It looks great from every angle. I recommend sizing down because it’s SO stretchy. I’m wearing the xxxs / 00 size. It was definitely a splurge but so worth it! Now I’m looking forward to more days by the water knowing I have something I’m truly excited to wear. Linking my fave swim and summer essentials below! Have a great week ahead and take care.
